Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs. Apple iPad Mini, Tough Fight!
As expected, Samsung Electronics introduced a new 8-inch tablet on Saturday at Mobile World Congress, named Galaxy note 8, intended to compete directly with Apple’s 7.9-inch iPad Mini and Google’s 7-inch Nexus 7.
Just like other Samsung’s other tablets, the new tablet comes with a stylus pen which allows the user to write, highlight or draw on the screen and is capable of showing multiple apps on the screen at the same time just like the previous Samsung galaxy s3 or note 2. Today, we will compare the specs and other features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and Apple iPad mini.
Size
Compared the 7.9-inch iPad mini, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.0 is a bit larger in every dimension.
Weight
Today’s high advanced manufacturing technology has made both devices relatively light, but the iPad mini is 30g lighter than the Note 8.0.
Display
In this aspect, The Note 8.0’s display is a bit sharper, at 189 pixels per inch (PPI).
Processor
To make sure everything runs smoothly, Samsung’s galaxy Note 8.0 powers with its Exynos 4 Quad chip, the same one found in Samsung’s phablet, the Galaxy Note II ,.
Apple gave the iPad mini a last-generation A5 chip, first introduced in 2011's iPad 2.
RAM
The Note 8.0 quadruples the iPad mini’s mere 512 MB of RAM.
Storage
The Galaxy Note 8.0 will come in 32GB and 64GB versions. Samsung throw the 16GB model away for the Galaxy note 8, but has a microSD card slot, unlike Apple’s mini-tablet.
Wireless
Both tablets ship in both Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + mobile data models. At least in some regions, Samsung's will be LTE-capable. Apple also offers a (pricier) LTE iPad mini.
But the Note 8 support make phone calls in some regions.
Battery
Samsung’s note 8 (4600 mAh) has a big battery than the iPad mini (4440 mAh). But you should remember many other factors also determine actual battery life.
Cameras
Samsung and Apple both realize the Cameras are rarely the most important part of a tablet. Both of them offer a 5-megapixel rear camera for the two devices. The Note 8 has a 1.3 MP front facing camera while the iPad mini has a 1.2MP front facing camera.
Intangibles
The unique pens on the Note 8 can be used to write, highlight and draw. The screens also sense when the mouse hovers over the screen, providing an equivalent to the hovering mouse cursor on the PC. However, few third-party applications have been modified to take full advantage of the pens.
Android’s tablet app selection is improving, but here iOS is still King. Apple now had over 275,000 iPad-specific apps in the App Store. Google Play's selection often defaults to stretched-out phone apps. Fortunately, these will look a bit better on an 8-inch screen than on a 10-inch tablet. I give the huge advantage to Apple in this area.
The Galaxy Note 8.0 will be available for purchase in the second quarter of this year, Samsung said. The company did not list a detailed price for the device while now the iPad Mini costs $330. So which one is your favor? Welcome to Show your thoughts below.
